Perfect Teeth

Thursday, January 28, 2010

I don't have the perfect teeth to create that perfect smile, so getting braces have crossed my mind twice or thrice in my lifetime. However, at 26 I don't feel like I have the guts to carry that whole "braced look". A friend of mine who got his braces in college was made fun of so much. But now, with his new aligned teeth he looked so much better. This made me stop and think - will a new pair of chompers improve my smile and would it be totally worth it? I heard that in Orange NJ invisalign Braces will definitely help in straightening your teeth thus enhancing your smile. After straightening - whitening. Yay.

Now I Know!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

After a long days work, I love love love a long hot shower to relax me. However, I read that long, hot showers are bad for your skin!!! It strips the skin of its natural oil, dries your skin and damages the outer skin cells called keratinocytes which provides the tough defense against the environment. So yes, I am guilty of loving hot showers, Hubby always scolded me about it but I never listen. Now I know why I have such dry hands.

So, if you want to have healthy baby smooth skin, keep those shower time less than 10 minutes and at a lukewarm water temperature. Not only will setting the temperature on the low side keep you from scalding yourself with hot water, it will also help you lower your energy bills. Bubble baths should be on a minimum because they dry out skin even more than showers. Then after, don't forget to moisturize! I use Jergens. It's the best for super dry skin like mine.

Fashion Trends

I am a 90's kid. I remember growing up with Barbie sneakers, over sized jeans and floral dresses! Crocs have not been invented and it seemed cool to wear over-sized shirts and sandals with socks (even for girls!!!) I cringe every time I see old pictures of myself. Trends in clothing is always changing. Just check out this Children's Clothing Timeline and see how kids used to dress during the 80's, 90's and up to the present. To any parents horror - clothing styles and trends evolve faster than anything we've ever seen before. So, it is vital as parents to choose clothing that will stand the test of time and trend!

Just look at me when I was young, sporting that ultra hip bubble shades which is back in style right now. Kids also tend to be more fashion conscious these days. And why not? They are bombarded with ads and tv shows which showcases what's in and what's not. I remember when I was a kid, I had only a few clothes, about 2 pairs of shoes and a handful of toys. Case in point, my kid, at age 3 has more shoes that when I was 12.

Sometimes I worry about my kids future, and my kids' kids. Things aren't that simple these days. Playing tag, hide and seek and such are replaced by computer or handheld games. There are also more television shows which keep the little one's glued to the tv set longer than what is needed. But there is still hope, armed with this knowledge I vow to try my very best to keep my kids grounded, to know the value of family and to be less materialistic in this so so materialistic world.

No Parking Between 12MN to 5AM

Monday, January 25, 2010

Our car Whitey has been towed recently. Poor little bugger had to sleep overnight in the towing garage. It was 100% hubby's fault. Although he didn't know at that time about the law that prohibits cars to be parked in streets after 12MN - ignorance of the law does not exempt us from it. Here in Cebu, if you want to avoid being towed; not to mention over two thousand plus peso poorer, never ever do the ff:

  • Park in clearly marked NO PARKING ZONE.
  • Park your car in the street between 12MN to 5AM.

Good thing it didn't take us a long time to get the car back. The only problem I had with the CITOM office is that it clearly needs maintenance. After all, with the increased revenue their getting because of towed vehicles they can surely afford to remodel the place. Records showed that in March 2009, the government collected only P44,820 compared to P689,357 in April, or a difference of P644,537. Imagine that. The office was old and does not have its own photocopier! When we paid, we had to have some stuff photocopied (receipts) and we had to go out and look for a machine outside. Tsk tsk.

This reminds me!! It's almost time for the annual registration - and since our car's plate number ends with 3 we have to have it done this March. Now I have to find that auto insurance quote my agent gave me last week. We want to have our car insured comprehensively and not just a CTPL.

Clean House

Its that time of the year again wherein I organize, file and pack away old files (2008) and store it in the warehouse for safe keeping. Its fine, I just hate going to that dark, smelly warehouse which is so full of random stuff!! It's a common place in our house where we store for a lot of things piled up over the years. Every few months or so we clean it up only to see it full again after a few weeks. There are stuff from the office, spare parts and stuff from the house - old clothes, appliances, furniture, boxes - even some old cardboard displays of mom's books when she was selling them and that was over 10 years ago!! If we are not careful we might find ourselves in the show Clean House! Well, come to think of it, that's not a bad idea.

And...here we go!

fridayfillin.gif

1. You have a chance to make a good first impression, don't screw it up by being late on your interview.

2. I can use some strong coffee right now!

3. There is a big sign in my door which says KEEP OUT, didn't you get that?

4. I plan to just book a flight and pay later.

5. It's time to go down and get my cellphone charger except I am too lazy to go and get it.

6. Design ideas for a dress are jumbled and up in the air but I can't seem to stick to one and go with it.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to sleeping in early, tomorrow my plans include cleaning my room and Sunday, I want to hear mass!

Talking With Myself.

The two boys are asleep (finally!) and the Husband is out on an interview. So I am finally alone..solitude. Most of the time, I don't ask for it, but there are days where I feel like being a recluse and the only conversation I have is with myself - in my head. Do you do that too? I do. I do it more when I am feeling bad and I don't have anyone to talk to. This way I get to discuss how I am feeling without telling anyone about it. Weird. But it works for me, I am my own Psychiatrist. Anyway..I was suppose to exercise earlier when I realized I have to vacuum. The dust bunnies have gathered below our bed and in the window sill its not even cute. As you know I hate looking at mess so I clean. That is also one stress reliever for me. I don't need a new dip machine or any other exercise equipment to get fit, as long as I stay active, do chores and breastfeed I am bound to lose the baby weight in time for my friends wedding!

..Oh well so there goes my Saturday, typical..boring..no stress..plus I get to nap with my boys! Just the way I like it. How's yours?

That Was Close

Friday, January 22, 2010

Whew! That was close. My PC greeted me with this error earlier, "Disk Boot failure, Insert System Disk" I did so while praying to God my hard drive didn't crash or anything like that. I kind of knew something like this will happen sooner or later since we've been having power interruptions lately which caused my PC to shut down unexpectedly.

To my horror I could not "restore" my PC and it failed to boot prompting another error which says "Cannot find any hard drive" Uh-Oh. My heart did a somersault. I knew this was bad. I have back-up but its not super up to date. I didn't really worry to much, I just got annoyed with the minor set-back especially these days when the Boss is always at a bad mood. Barking his orders here and there even giving his insurance agent a hard time when she came over to give him the new life insurance rates. Anyway....I turned off my PC, went down, relaxed and got my laptop. I then proceeded to work there instead. A few minutes later, I turned my PC on and what do you know - it booted! I quickly backed up my files and de-fragmented my PC. Then I quickly thanked the Lord for little miracles.

Cancer: Prevention and Cure

Thursday, January 21, 2010

More and more people die of cancer each year. Studies show that cancer involving the respiratory system (lung cancer and Mesothelioma cancer) has the most cases of death while cancer involving the reproductive organ has the fastest rising number of casea each year. Statistics may be rising however we need not be afraid because cancer is preventable and curable. There are vaccines and treatment for that. Like in the case of cervical cancer, although reproductive organ cancer cases is rising, there is lower mortality rate because of the cervical vaccines offered. I guess, the key to surviving the dreaded Big C, apart from prevention of course, is early detection. Add to that, one must also be very knowledgeable and have information on the disease to know what to expect, what to do and stuff. Good thing there are lots of helpful sites out there. So, when you are asked to do your annual check-up, don't grumble and curse the insurance agent - be thankful that you still have the means to ensure a healthy life. Also, eat healthy and live life. After all the best way to prepare for life is to begin to live.

Thunk Your Thunker, Berleen Style

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color white chocolate caramel and the number 0.

Did you miss me?

1. Pants on the Ground....lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground! (Are you an Idol fan Berleen?)

2. To compliment Kimber's question from last week.... have you ever fell down the stairs? Yes...many times cuz I am a clutz. Good thing I was never seriously hurt or injured.

3. Have you ever written to a company about their product? Ever called them? Nope haven't written...but called a few customer service hotlines for Samsung because my OMNIA II (I9000) is having problems with its video streaming app - it doesn't work. Apparently, samsung doesn't know how to fix the problem!!!

4. Your dog/cat/snake/iguana/pet skunk (or just fill in your pet's species) goes to the vet. Ok, you take them to the vet... most pets wouldn't go on their own (well duh!! LOL). The vet tells you that your species has cancer. Do you:
  • a. tell them to pull out the needle and put them to sleep on the spot
  • b. take them home and let them live out their life until the end
  • c. same as b. except you don't let them get to the suffering stage
  • d. go full steam ahead with cancer treatments
5. What is your favorite comfort food? Ice cream sundae or chocolates.

6. If your child was put in jail for putting a gun in their spouses mouth and pulling the trigger (even though the gun wasn't loaded), strangling them and breaking their arm... would you post bail for them? omg omg omg....that reminds me of Jason Ivler's case...yes I will post bail..however I will not hide him or cover for him. I will not be a hindrance to the case. But I will stand by him through the trial and I'd still love him just the same.

7. If elephants had wings, how many feathers do you think they would have on each wing? What a question :P If elephants had wings, they would not have feathers, all they need is their extra big ears. Of course. Don't you know anything about elephants? LOL

8. Is there anything growing in your refrigerator right now? eeew. no.

9. What did you do with your Thursdays while we were on a break? honestly, I was too busy then so I wasn't blogging that much so I didn't even really notice.

10. Would you donate to the Kimber Ark Building Fund and donate wood? She is about to float away after all...I just saw 2012 and if the movie freaked Kimber out and that's the reason why she is building an ark - then I would donate and ask to have tickets for me and the family as early as now.

11. If I were to send you a letter and I wanted to put a little heart sticker on the back of the envelope, what color sticker would you like it to be? Glittery Gold.

I'm Sick

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

This is a bad sign, I've been having scratchy throat and I've been coughing more and more as the day progressed. I just got better (fever and colds) and now it seems I am about to get sick again. This simply means my resistance to viruses have been lowered due to the fact that I have not been sleeping regularly. I have also been stressed and busy. Add to the fact that the weather has been pretty erratic, rainy today and hot the next. I just wish for a break sometimes, but being a mother is a full time, 24/7 job. You just can't call in sick or apply for a leave. Wouldn't that be great though?

This reminds me of the fact that Hubby has still not gotten health insurance for himself. Between the two of us, he's the more sickly one. Maybe I should remind him to skim through Blue Cross NC and learn more about health plans. Come to think of it, I need one too.

Jacob @ 4 months!

Baby Jacob at 4 months:

  • 6.7 kgs (and counting)
  • squeals and giggles in delight.
  • can recognize a face
  • loves it when you talk to him
  • loves to put things/his hand in his mouth
  • super drool-y
  • hates it when you put him down in his crib/bed
  • likes it when you prop him up and make him sit.
  • has head control
  • can flip over from his back to his tummy and vice versa

Got this info from Baby Center.

Researchers believe that your baby can now understand all the basic sounds that make up his native language. Between this time and 6 months of age, he'll develop the ability to make some of these sounds, which means you may hear the words you've been dreaming about, namely "mama" and "dada." While child development experts say it's too early for your baby to connect those sounds with you, that won't make hearing them any less exciting.

You can encourage your baby's attempts at communication by mirroring or imitating his expressions and sounds. He may try to imitate you, too. Say "ba" and he may try to say it back.

Reacting when your baby makes noises or tries to say something will help him learn the importance of language and better understand cause and effect. It's great for his self-esteem, too: He'll begin to realize that what he says makes a difference.

• Learn more fascinating facts about your 4-month-old's development.

High Cost To Be Perfect

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Image is everything in Hollywood. That is why many of the actors and actresses obsess about their looks all the time. I guess, not all of them. But for reality star, Heidi Montag - its so important for her than she underwent 10 surgeries in one sitting just to have a "new body" to reflect her "inner beauty"(estimated at $30,000-plus). I don't know much about her, but I saw her 'before' pictures and she looks very beautiful as it is. She's young, has a great body and very pretty. I don't know why she felt she needed the boob job, nose job, lipo and a whole bunch more. According to her, she's not stopping there! She plans on more surgeries in the future. Talk about someone having major body dysmorphic disorder.

She's sending a bad message especially to young girls out there! No wonder more and more girls rely on beauty enhancers, from simple quick weight loss pills to extreme procedures like liposuction to feel beautiful. According to her "never the prettiest girl," and that the reason for her many procedures was "to feel perfect." There were more stuff she said in the new People Magazine..the more I read it the more sorry I feel for her. To think her sleazy Hubby condones such behavior, it's just sad.

High School Life.

I am so obsessed with Glee right now. My friends have been telling me for months to watch the show, but because I was busy I never got to. I started watching a week back and I finished the whole Season 1 in a week! I loved it. I loved the characters, the song and dance numbers and also, I loved how funny and talented they all were. I can't wait for Season 2.

While watching, I remember my own high school experience. Images of my former acne-faced self (good thing I had the best acne treatment then - sleep!) flashed before my eyes. Back then it was very important to be accepted, to fit in and to find your own niche. There will always be popular kids, you may or may not belong in that group...but you must always remember that it doesn't matter whether you are in that group or part of the 'losers' as long as you are true to yourself and you're happy. That's what I realized now that I am older. The issues we had back then were so petty that I regret many things. One of which is having to fight with my then best friend because of a boy. If only I knew the things I know now, we would still be close now.

HGH and Hubby

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Hubby is such a fan of boxing and it was such a disappointment for him that Manny Pacquiao's scheduled boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. this March was canceled. There were a lot of talks about alleged substance use and stuff. I don't really know the details and I am not a fan of Manny P. but I do know one thing, I feel Mayweather is just making excuses, the truth is he's afraid of the Pacman. I know for a fact how disciplined Manny is with his training and boxing, he won't take any human growth hormone's just to get ahead.

Now Hubby on the other hand said he would like to try HGH. He's getting chubby around the waist area and he want to bulk up! As long as he knows its safe then its fine with me.

Chubby Baby

4 months!! That's how old my baby#2 is. Time flies...I remember counting the days, being 4cm and still driving waiting for him to arrive and now - he's here, all 6.7 kgs. Jacob is definitely a bigger baby as compared to his Big brother Ozzy. He is wearing clothes which Ozzy was wearing when he was 5 months already. When Ozzy was in his 4th month he weighed less than Jacob weighs now. Of course, because he's a baby, his rolls and chubby cheeks are cute, but when he grows up he'll want to be lean than lumpy. Who doesn't? He can always try diets and pill, but slimquick side effects are common so he has to be careful. It's not surprising that Jacob will surpass his Kuya in the height department as well. After all I noticed he has long fingers. Well...as if that's any indication at all. But I will take it as a positive thing. For now, I am contented with their good health. Appearance, height and weight and such are just secondary.

Dancing Me

When I was single, I used to burn all the calories I take in by - dancing! I used to be with the dance troupe and I loved to go dancing with my friends. Its the kind of exercise I can do because I hate repetitive actions. Me and my girls used to go dancing every Friday nights. I miss those great times. Nowadays, with the 2 kids the only dancing I do now is when I dance the baby to sleep! I don't mind though, its an interesting way to burn my excess fat without taking in fat burners. As much as I want to have a break sometimes and have ME time the truth of the matter is that I enjoy taking care of the kids. I just don't let the Husband know because he might see this as an excuse not to help out with the kids. Anyway, with the kids I know my purpose in life. I see the world differently. Being single was fun but motherhood, exhausting as it may be at times is something I won't trade for anything.

Tired of acne breakouts? Are you one of those people who have such a great personality but hide behind a lot of makeup because of your bad skin? Some anti-acne products and treatments don't work. In the long run, doing more harm to them than good. If you're one of those people, another option that you can turn to is to take in acne vitamins. Studies show that vitamin deficiencies often contribute to major acne breakouts. With this in mind, its pretty clear why using harsh chemicals won't do the job. Little Mama's Boy

Friday, January 15, 2010

Ozzy (most often than not) comes to the office with me. He is such a mama's boy that if he had his way, I'd be with him all the time. I am lucky where I work in the 3rd floor of our house which is also an office so it is very convenient for me in terms of balancing my life between career and motherhood. Anyway, he's here again learning his letter's and practicing writing. I've used the font print dashed so that he can practice writing his name. Oftentimes he just comes in and behaves in the office, eating his crackers, watching some TV or writing. But sometimes, just sometimes - he dozes off beside me in this chair. Poor little mama's boy.

Cocktail Dress Ideas for 2010

Thursday, January 14, 2010

It seems I am more excited for the wedding than the bride herself. I've taken it upon myself to look for a sensible giveaway, I've scanned dozens of invitations and I've looked into what would be a good color motif for my BIL's wedding. The bride and I like plum, chocolate brown and yellow. I know the bride personally loves combining a deep brown color with pink accents. Or we can even play with all these three hues...^_^

Since I am the Maid of Honor, I want to look my best. I've already promised myself I will lose weight and grow my hair long to achieve that big curls look I've always wanted. For my dress, I still have no idea what I want it to look. To get some ideas I've looked through prom dresses to get a fresh outlook on what's new and hip. The last thing I want is to look dowdy and a mother of 2! However, I also want to look appropriate for their big church wedding. There have been a lot of ideas from Tony Bowls prom dresses that I am left confused more than when I first started. This one on the right is from the Paris Prom Dress 2010 Collection. It looks nice and festive..but a tube dress won't be allowed for sure so maybe I can revise this look a bit. I can also opt to have a short dress instead of a long one.

Short prom dresses are not only easier to wear, it also looks great since I am errr short. Besides, I can finally show off a cute pair of high heeled shoes with a short dress.

Right now I am just looking for ideas. Its never too early to plan these things out. Besides, planning a wedding for yourself is not much fun because of all the pressure. But planning someone else wedding is a different story! I guess I am a frustrated Bridezilla. Our wedding was kind of a rush so I didn't have enough time to morph into a bridezilla. Lucky Hubby. Do you have any tips and tricks for a memorable wedding? Do leave a message and let me know!

Xo

Before I Was A Mom

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Shoti (younger brother in chinese) has the cutest squeal and giggle ever! Well, of course I'd say this - I am the mother. While its true the bond between mother and eldest is really special, there's something about the youngest, the baby of the family. This picture was taken on the eve of New Year.
Before I was a Mom

I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom

I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom

I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put them down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom

I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Wedding Fever

Monday, January 11, 2010

I've mentioned in my previous post that as early as now, I have 2 wedding lined up in December this year. One for my brother-in-law and the other one is my HS friends' wedding. Both are important to me and I wish their dates would be different!! Anyway, that gives me 11 full months to prepare. I want to grow out my hair so that I can have it permed. I want to achieve that simple sexy big curls with my hair. Also, starting uhmmmm next month I will do cardio workouts here at home. I would have preferred to use treadmills but since we don't have one I will just settle with our stationary bike. I will also try to walk more because I noticed 1 hour of malling is already tiresome for me. This way, come December, I will not have problems looking and fitting those beautiful vintage cocktail dresses I found online. Oh well, I have to wait for their motifs before I buy the dress though. LOL. Excited much?

Manic Monday #196

What is one thing you wish you could change about yourself?
...my skin (I want it to be fairer, smooth and even). my height..I want to be at least 5'3 and then my hair - smoother with big curls ^_^

Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
Yes I do. I also believe that by trusting in God's plan our lives, although difficult at first, would easily fall into place.

What would be your dream job?
To be a MODEL of course, trying on different clothes and having my pictures taken isn't exactly what I call a "job"!

December Weddings

It's official!!! Congratulations to my brother-in-law and his girlfriend for being engaged. Theirs was a telenovela-like love story with villains and heroes. Although many thought the relationship will not last because of the obstacles in the relationship (i.e. disapproving parents and long distance relationship) they have weathered every storm together. They are set to tie the knot this December. Another friend of mine is set to walk down the isle this December which means I have to slim down by then. Anyway, I can only wish both couples good luck and happiness for their upcoming weddings on December. I can't wait for them to start having kids too. ^_^ Finally, my boys will have first degree cousins. So they start making babies soon after the wedding because I'm counting on that! Like I've said before, my future SIL already has plans on the motif and overall feel of the wedding. I think she mentioned that the boys would be in tuxedos! Now, that I am excited to see. Hubby, who is the best-man in the wedding already has his speech ready! Talk about being excited!

What Are You Insecure About?

Friday, January 8, 2010

When I was in high school and all through college, weight has been a constant struggle. I would go on crash diets (that never work) and I would skip meals. The problem with skipping meals is that you get too hungry that you tend to overeat on the next mealtime. Binge and purge they say. The one diet trick that worked for me is the after 6 diet. Nothing after 6PM. Since I've learned of that, I've been sticking to that diet up until I had kids and eating was vital. If I skip just 1 meal I get really weak especially now that I am breastfeeding. Right now, my struggle is with my skin and not my weight anymore. It seems having 2 kids are my diet. I am very active and busy all day that I burn the calories that I take in. So, the thing in my body which I am most insecure about is my skin. I have stretchmarks and saggy tummy. I can always opt for a treatment with sono bello clinics; maybe a laser lipo or tighten my skin? But right now, I am too chicken. Who knows? Ask me again in a year or two. That is if I don't have baby#3 by then!
