Women and Weight Issues

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

I like playing dress up. My fashion sense is diverse. I never limit myself to one look only. Sometimes I go girly with frilly pink dresses and sometimes I go rocker chic with dark jeans and dark eye makeup. If I had all the money in the world; I'd be shopping for clothes every week. I'd raid shops like Topshop, Mango or Promod. I am especially loving printed dresses right now. Unfortunately, the excessive eating and zero exercise have caught up with me. I've noticed my shorts are getting tight and I can't wear anything too tight (without wearing my girdle) because of the bulge. Ewww. I was thinking - maybe I should try some diet pills? Well, better read up on those weight loss product reviews if I'm going to pursue this. I'm procrastinating; Hubby isn't due home for at least 5 or so months so I have enough time to slim down ^-^ Hai, women and weight issues. They always go together.LOL.

Celebrating A Birthday In School

...This year there will be no big celebration for Joshua's birthday.

Since his birthday will fall on a Wednesday, a school day, then I have decided that it would be fun to celebrate it in school with his new found friends. Since the school does not allow elaborate parties with mascots, clowns or games; the party would just be very simple.

Activities would include:

Cake + Blowing of the candles.

What is a birthday without blowing of candles right? I already have a cake in mind, think Diego and Dora. Since my son loves watching this show plus he loves the jungle animals why not have a jungle themed cake and give-aways right?

Getting to know the celebrant(this would serve as the activity).

I have to ask the specifics, but the teacher mentioned to me that whenever there's a birthday celebrant, they ask the mom or dad to talk about the celebrant for a bit, so that his teacher's and classmates get to know him more.

Eating.

...I still haven't decided on the menu. Since this will be just for snacks, I think I'd go for some cookies, drinks and uhmmmm spaghetti? fruit salad? I still haven't really decided yet.

Giving of loot bags.

The kids fave part of the whole thing! Loot bags ^-^

That's it.

Any other suggestions?

Oh No You Didn't!

The weather is great, it's cooler except that my kids are getting sick =( Both have colds. Oh well...I should still count my blessings. Cough and colds is nothing compared to diseases like HIV or cancer like malignant Mesothelioma.

Speaking of HIV...there's news circulating around town that's freaking me out. Apparently, more and more people are affected with the disease. More so in the gay community. I don't know if its true or not; but some of those affected, maybe for spite of whatever go around town pricking innocent people with infected needles!!! OMG. OMG. OMG. I was told that only happened in bars downtown where there were a lot of gays...but then now they are saying that these people ride PUJ too. I don't use PUV's but my brother and sometimes mom does. Now the brother is seriously thinking about overcoming his fear of driving because the fear of being infected is greater.

How can some people be so callous? Mean? downright evil? Pricking innocent people just 'cuz you've got the disease is simply thoughtless.

Rainy Days & Mondays

Monday, June 28, 2010

...always get me down.

That is - according to the song; but not today. Surprisingly, despite having slept for 6 hours only with the baby waking me up at 5AM sharp - I am in an A-ok! mood. I guess it's because the weather is cooler thus my head is cooler.

Also, Sunday's are unbearable at times because mass would mean sweat and heat but ever since we've changed Parish; the one we are going to now is fully-airconditioned plus they have clean comfort rooms with soap and a fully functioning hand dryers, hearing mass has never been so comfortable. There's no excuse why you should not hear mass on a Sunday.

My weekend was burp-tastic! Saturday, I had dinner at this Thai place with my friends and Sunday the family had P-noy food for lunch. Yum yum. Two of my most fave dishes during the weekend. Ozzy had fun as well playing games in Timezone. You should have seen him greedily putting all his candy prizes into his pocket. He especially loves shooting hoops, as well as shooting those small balls inside the mouth of Pooh or Stitch.

Sunday Stealing: Eighty Meme Part 1

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing. Sunday Stealing originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard of the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we also have our rules. First, we always credit the blog that we stole it from and we will “fess up” to the blog owner where we stole the meme. We also provide a link to the victim's post. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") We do sometimes edit the original meme, usually to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, sometimes to select that meme's best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from either this new meme or recently asked questions from a prior featured meme. Let's go

Today we ripped this meme off a blogger named Heart of Shou of the blog named Musings of an Absent Mind. Shou explains that she ripped it from a blogger named Erro. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. It was originally 80 questions, hence the name. Stage Mom

Friday, June 25, 2010

Yesterday, we had a meeting with the school teachers. It was good to meet my sons educators. I can easily see why Ozzy loves spending time in school; the teachers are well-groomed and know what they doing. After some hi-hellos with the other parents, orientation, election of class reps was next.

I was elected class rep for my son Nursery-2 morning class. Which I didn't expect ha!

Hubby was teasing me that I was being a "stage-mom" which I denied; but then again, everyone has a little bit of stage-mom trait when it comes to our kids. Let me indulge for a bit here.

Sharing 2 of Ozzy's worksheets from school.

All his worksheets have very good in it. Obviously, I am beyond proud! LOL.

I wonder what he wants to be when he grows up. Engineer? Doctor? Businessman (he can take gmat prep courses online) Pilot? Chef? Soldier?

Whatever it is; I would be proud nonetheless.

Stable Investment

My obsession with ebay and signature totes has got to stop.

Seriously, it messing with my work. I cannot seem to concentrate because the bags are calling to me. However, one purchase I am happy with lately is my HOYA 67mm Haze UV Filter for my D90. I got it on ebay for USD1.00. I don't mind that I waited for it for 3 weeks by post because it arrived in good condition anyway. At least I've take extra precaution for my camera's lens. The UV lens is a good investment because not only will it absorbs ultraviolet rays, it also gives a cleaner, sharper picture with less haze. Plus, it serves as a permanent lens protector. Now this is one purchase I am delighted with.

Speaking of investments, Hubby and I got to talking one time about sound and safe investments that we can make. I was telling him that if he buys me diamonds it can serve as an investment. I don't know if he believed me though! Seriously, apart from jewelry, buying gold coins is a safe investment. Think about it, gold is more stable than paper currency and it does not depreciate over time! If you have extra savings go for it.

Wedding Month

Wedding preparations for my friend is underway, I am sure she is having fun preparing; from choosing her wedding gown to more menial tasks of choosing wedding napkins. I should remind her about the wedding expo in SM because I am sure she will get a lot of ideas regarding the motif, wedding invitations and give-away. A personalized table napkin would add a nice touch to make the wedding more intimate and less generic. Never mind that I am not the one getting married, but I've been watching lifestyle channel so much these days because of their wedding specials, its June (the month of weddings) after all. It's just so fun to watch weddings! "Watch" is the operative word, because preparing for one can be such a pain. Just for inspiration, here are some themes I am loving.

Calla Lilies

Summer Theme

TT: Summertime 2010

Welcome to the June 24th edition of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want.
Write about it on your blog... simple as that.
Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!

Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post.
Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog
here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs.
Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks responses!
That's what all this is about after all, isn't it?
We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Atlantic Ocean and the number 3.

1. It became officially summer on Monday. What's your favorite part of winter?
...we don't have winter here but if we did, I guess my fave part would be the snow(I've never experienced snow).

2. What was your worst summer vacation ever?
Summer of 1999. Summer before 4th year HS. That was when my good friend and I had a fallout.

3. Kimber's husband just got the dream job that he's hoped for. So a big shout out to her and Anthony! Tell us about the best job that you ever had.
Motherhood - it was something I did not want initially but then when I embraced the job fully; I saw how wonderful and rewarding it is.

4. Who is probably talking a load of crap about you right now?
Hopefully NO ONE.

5. An alien appears and offers you the opportunity to repeat one year of your life. You will still know everything that you know now. He explains that no matter what you do differently, when you are returned to the present nothing will have changed. What year would you pick and why?
The year Hubby and I met. It was my 5th year in college. It was the best year of my life. I had fun. I was graduating. I was in love. Everything I enjoyed and love in life was present.

6. Name three things you have on you at all times. Explain why.
Cellphone - because I just have to be connected all the time.
Wedding Ring - its something I know Hubby and I wear all the time even though he's far that's one thing we share everyday.

7. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper and mailed it?
Too long ago I could not even remember.

8. If you could have everyone in the blogosphere read just one of your posts, which post would you pick and why?
This one about marriage because its serious and stuff and all word-y and I never (well seldom) post serious articles nowadays.

9. I recently read that the music industry continues to decline at an alarming rate. In the last year it said the sales of Michael Jackson's and The Beatles' music are the only artists who sales continue to climb. The article stated that the two are holding up the industry. Have you bought a CD or mp3 of either artist recently?
No. No wonder its continually declining. I am sure many answered no. With the availability of downloadable audio tracks online, who need to buy them?

10. What radio ad right now do you find so annoying that you'd rather have a tooth drilled than hear it again?
I can't think of any on top of my head, so none.

11. Berleen walks into a bar on a hot Minnesota day. At the bar sits a priest, a rabbi and a minister. A ten foot duck walks into the bar right after Berleen. What drink do you think Berleen orders?
Maybe a beer to get the edge off.

12. There is a knock on your door. It can be anyone in the world. Who would you want it to be?
My husband.

13. What would be the worst entertainment or sporting that you could be forced to watch?
Golf.

Sleepless Since Monday

I may have spoken too soon about the baby.

He had fever last Monday which I mentioned in the post before this one; since his fever lasted for 3 days, we had him checked and the doctor ordered for some blood tests. Results came out negative for any sign of infection or dengue so I wasn't too worried. Shortly after, his fever subsided. But then, 2 days later....I noticed he is still feeling weak plus some reddish spots have appeared in his skin! He has redness in his face and back.

Oh no. This could be nothing, but then again; why risk it right?

So were off to the doctor again later.:(( I've been haggard and sleepless since Monday, who needs diet pills that work (or might not work) when I have my 2 kids to keep my weight in check, right? I just wish next week will be sickness free, worry-free and stress free.

My 2 Boys Are Sick.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Just got back from the Pedia.

Joshua was given meds for his rashes/hives. Apart from the scary rashes, he seemed really fine. No fever. He wasn't feeling differently other than complaining about the itchiness - that's it. Hopefully, by tomorrow everything will clear up.

=====
As for the baby who has been experiencing low-grade fever since Monday, he was ordered CBC. The doctor said his throat seemed inflamed and reddish. Since its his 3rd day having fever, even if its low grade, better be safe and check if his fever is caused by something else (viral?) and not his erupting teeth.

Results of the CBC have not come out yet; but I think its nothing serious, the doctors assistant said she'd let me know if something was up; otherwise just continue with his meds for his fever.

When one kid is sick, its draining, imagine what its like when both are sick at the same time? Utterly maddening. I was browsing the net for medical insurance for the kids when I saw ipad insurance, I asked myself, "What was that?" It's exactly what you think, insurance for Ipad's. Its not even out for a year and it too has insurance. Amazing.

Zero Sleep

I am so not in the mood for work today. I've had zero sleep. When I close my eyes all I hear is the baby's crying.

Oh well.

I still need to canvass and ask around some printing presses. An acquaintance of mine who has a printing press gave me a good deal on some of our promotional materials and brochures. I am still busy looking for even more better deals before I decide. Surprisingly, there are many printers all around the City with very good deals, for example, postcard printing can cost you between c.04-.14 depending on the number you order.

Gotta finish up before 1030. The Baby, Ozzy and I need to visit the Pedia.

Beyond Haggard

The trouble when you're baby is teething???

Aside from the fact that it hurts them; it hurts me too. Well, not hurt-hurt..but you know, I haven't slept in 2 days. I am beyond haggard and even though I try to rest, I can't! There are too many things in my head right now, apart from the baby's teething and has low grade fever ~ big brother Ozzy has hives thus he is absent from school today. There are red, protruding bumps all over his body and he is itchy all over. I don't know what caused so we need to visit the doctor later.

Ozzy just had this little bumps (pimple like things) on his eyelid and eye area; they lasted for 2 weeks and now that they are getting better I was happy but now - boom - hives.

What's next? Hopefully none!

Allergens Everywhere

Monday, June 21, 2010

These past few days, I've noticed a rash forming in little Jacob's right arm. My first reaction was he might be bitten by ants or mites from the bed. The big brother sometimes brings his food on the bed (which I always always say NO to but obviously he never listens!). However, it didn't look like insect bites. My thoughts turned to the only possibility - allergies? After all, he just started on solids. Food like eggs, nuts, cow's milk, fish (such as tuna, salmon, and cod), and shellfish (like lobster, shrimp, and crab) are best avoided.

Although, I am pretty sure I did not let him eat any of those..so maybe its something different, animal dander? mold? eczema?

Hmmm.

...I was thinking of going to his pedia to have the rashes checked but since the spots have seemed to lessen after I placed antibacterial ointment, maybe it was some sort of bacteria like his brother. For extra measure, I just had the room vacuumed, the sheets changed and the curtains taken down. It's bad enough Ozzy has nasal allergies, I don't want the baby forming allergies this anytime soon. That is why I am seriously thinking of investing on allergy bedding, a bit expensive but if it means an allergy free world then I am all for it.

The TT questions are brought to you by Kimber, the color of success and the number 1567.

1. Have you ever wondered why snakes can't slither backwards? No. I hate snakes so I don't care what they do or don't do as long as they don't come near me.

2. Is divorce contagious? No. However, I think if you come from a family wherein your dad and mom had divorce there's a higher change that you get divorce too. (I just read that somewhere)
3. Do you enjoy hiking?Nope. Anything that involves walking, getting sweaty and hot - I don't like.
4. Is there a color of a shirt a man should just never wear?Hmmmm Fuchsia.
5. Have you read a news story this week that just made your blood boil?..this story was from last week I think; but I just read about it and it makes me mad knowing that this baby's (I say baby because, Ardi Rizal is just 2!!!) parents allow him to smoke :((

"According to “The Sun” some officials have offered the family of Ardi to have their own car if they will let the child stop having his cigarettes. His father (the one who introduced him to smoking) Muhammad who is the head of the family turned down the offer by saying, “He looks pretty healthy to me. I don’t see the problem.” This is very unfortunate because of the truth that most of the people are not well informed about the bad effects of smoking. It looks like Ardi’s father already shut his mind for teaching about Ardi’s health."

The story is heart breaking.

6. Do you keep old business cards or name tags from companies you have worked for?
Nope.

9th Month Today.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Today marks little Shoti's 9th month.

I know this sounds so cliche but the 9 months seem to fly by. Has it really been 9 months already since I posted this article?? I was 38 weeks then.

=====

Today, he is this little bundle of energy. He loves to climb stuff and he constantly balances as if trying his best to stand up and walk. I think the reason he is more adventurous to try things is because he sees his Ahia jumping around and running around all the time that he is inspired to follow suite. Would you believe, every time they play rough with his brother, to my horror the baby would actually laugh and seem to enjoy it! And he is still a baby!! I can imagine, 1 year from now I'd be needing the help of the best wrinkle creams because the house would totally be chaotic with the 2 boys around. I can picture them friends one minute then fighting over a toy the next. Hubby had a twin boy and he said there wasn't a day where they didn't fight. Oh man, I've got my hands full for sure.

Out of Ideas

I've been neglecting my blog.

Tsk. It's just that, life has been pretty hectic around the house now that Joshua has started schooling. Add to the fact that we still lack 1 housemaid in the house.:((

Regarding Joshua's schooling, maybe I spoke to soon. Day 1-4 went smoothly, but by Day 5 and until now (day 7th), he refuses to go already. He says, "I don't have friends in school." Awww. Although he always says that phrase long before whenever he is alone in a room, I think to some degree he feels really scared to be in the presence of strangers. After all this is just the 2nd week of class.

Gosh!

Every morning since Friday has been a nightmare, tell me, what do you say to a child who says he doesn't like to go to school??? Do you promise rewards? Threaten him with punishment? Any tip will do, 'cuz I am out of ideas.

What's In My Head

Thursday, June 10, 2010

I've posted a blog about Ozzy's first day of schooling here; if you read it you'd know that he has been such a trooper all throughout.

4th Day (which is today)

He was hesitant to go in; this time I had to bring him to their classroom. But once there he let go of my hand and went with his teacher.

I wonder how is he in class? Is he behaving? Is he making friends? I can't help but wonder because once he goes in class, I really don't have an idea what happens inside anymore...oh I do hope he's having fun!!!

===

Anyway...what's a perfect gift for a baby shower? I found a custom diaper bag for sale when I was looking for personalized gifts online. It looks so perfect for my friend! You can even "create your bag" and mix and match your preferred fabric. The lovely diaper bags comes with matching handbags, changing pads and a reversible nursing covers. It's totally one of a kind. The only problem I have is that shipping would take a long time so I will settle for something else instead. Sayang!

===

I am just really happy today. It had been raining. The weather is definitely getting better and cooler. Rain, rain please stay!

Sharing a few pics of my little baby =)

He is easier to feed and he is such a little bundle of energy! He would cruise, crawl and whatnot. Look!!! He can stand up for a few seconds too.

We seldom bring him out. It's safer this way, no germs or anything like that. Besides, we need 1 more housemaid.

...and here's my boys, both at 8 months old.

Making Unique Recycled Crafts

Friday, June 4, 2010

Read this wonderful article from my friend. Thought I would share it here.

Article by : Evepin

Making Unique Recycled Crafts

In this day and age, people are beginning to understand the effects of one's personal actions on the environment. Efforts are being made to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials in order to minimize waste. One such effort is to make unique recycled crafts for personal or household use or as gifts to others. The following ideas are simple enough for anyone to do.

Recycled Fabric

wall art

  • Wall decoration. Turn a favorite old fabric or a printed dress into a decorative wall hanging by covering over a black canvas. Use industrial staplers to secure the fabric in place and as tight as possible. Either use a big canvas or smaller ones for a grouped wall art.

  • Eco-bags. Make eco-bags for shopping and groceries to avoid using plastic and paper bags. Create a rectangular pattern using manila paper. The size of the rectangle and the handle strips depend on one's preference. Cut the fabric based on the pattern. Sew them by hand or by sewing machine. Another option but requires more effort is to make a patchwork of various fabrics and use this as the main fabric of the bag.

  • Belts and accessories. Turn jeans into braided belts by cutting long strips and combining them into three main portions. Knot one side, braid them, then knot at the end to secure it. Also, make appliqués by cutting the fabric into small circles or other shapes and glue or sew them together. These appliqués can be used as pins, as pendants to necklaces made of cut fabric, or as adornments to plain headbands.

Recycled Paper

  • Place mats. Cut lengthwise into 1-inch strips paper from old magazines, posters, or even maps. Form some strips into columns first then weave the other strips row by row. Use double-sided tape to secure the strips in place. As an added touch, secure all four sides with a decorative tape. Either use a sealer, such as an all-in one glue or laminate the placemats to secure.

Other Materials

  • Twig Jewelry hanger. Use twigs that branch out in an upward and interesting manner to serve as jewelry hangers. Use non-toxic paint for a splash of color. Add sparkle by sprinkling glitters (gold, silver, or same color as the paint) on it. Put it upright by using a small and narrow vase or glue it to the center of a polished wooden block.

  • Crocheted mobile phone pouches. Plastic bags can serve as yarn to make crocheted phone pouches. Flatten the plastic bag and fold them lengthwise until it is 1 inch thick. Cut off the handles and seams (top and bottom), then cut the remaining into 1 inch thick pieces. Knot the loops together. Repeat using other plastic bags. Roll the resulting plastic yarn into a ball. Use a thick crochet hook (around 3 mm) for this purpose.

There are a multitude of unique recycled crafts one can make. These are only a few ideas where people can use old materials to create more personal and unique items. All it takes is a bit of creativity and to think outside of the box, with the conviction that these efforts are for the purpose of taking small steps into living green.

A Gift.

Love my Dad.

I remember he gave me a voucher for a Spa a few months back for my birthday. Woopee!!! It was in my wallet for months before I remembered I have it. I thought I lost it already. Now, I plan to have my usual Diamond Peel. It's about time because my nose is full of icky blackheads already! I haven't had my facial ever since the baby was born (so that 8 months++). Don't want to sound vain here, I might not have it worse when it comes to facial skin, never needing any help from acne creams growing up; but I do need a facial. I have lots of dead skin and it looks really dry. All those summer outings took a toll on my face for sure.
