Thursday Thunks: Drawing in the Sand

Thursday, July 29, 2010

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Janera Jepson's eyes and the number 3.

1. We know how creative Berleen is with her terrific tee-shirts and such, so how about you? Do you draw anything or perhaps your name in the sand when you go to the beach?
Nope..I don't.

2. Kimber doesn’t always leave her house. I wonder if she knows what is out her back door. What is out your back door?
Laundry area. Maids quarters.

3. Do you prefer the beach, a pool or a lake? Why?
BEACH.^-^ I love the breeze. The Sand. Everything.

4. What is something recently that happened to you that you are REALLY excited about?
...my 10-month old baby is getting better at balancing, I am REALLY excited for him to finally walk ^-^

5. I am fortunate that I come from a very close family. Are any of your great-grandparents still alive? If not did you ever meet them?
I was able to meet my great grandmother when I was little. She died already.

6. When was the last time you spoke in front of a large group? Tell us about it.
Public speaking freaks me out, the last time I talked in a large group was when I asked a question during my very 1st Teacher-Parent Meeting. I ended up voted as one of the class rep!

7. Have you ever bungee jumped? Would you ever bungee jump?
Nope and I would never dare. I don't want to subject myself to torture. For what??? To have a picture/video of myself screaming like a little girl? No thank you.

8. How strong emotionally do you think you are?
very strong.

9. Kimber and Berleen still have NEVER met, yet they are best friends. What is the first thing you notice about people when you meet them?
Appearance. The way they dress. Their shoes.

10. Who do you mess with the most?
...my 4 year old son! =)) he's such fun. I hope he never grows up.

11. Who was the last person you talked to on a landline?
My good friend GIL.

12. I finally saw Avatar this week. What was the last movie you watched long after it came out and loved?
Can I just pass? I rarely watch movies and frankly I am not into movies.

13. What did you dream about last night?
I forgot!!! I was in a deep sleep.^_^

Pug-tastic

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

As the saying goes, dogs are man's best friend. And why not? These canine companions are loyal, loving and they never complain - even though you don't love them back.

Why am I talking about dogs all of a sudden? Now, let's get this straight - I am no dog lover. I don't mind them, I just don't have a special connection with them. However, FYI, for dog lovers out there, there's this fun site which offers info, games ans what not for all kinds of dog breeds.

I saw this really adorable black pug in our neighborhood. Whenever me and the kids go to the nearby park to run around, I see this pug. He would always jump around, excited to see us. I really want one!!! Too bad Mom and Dad won't allow another dog in the house just yet. We currently have an Aspin (Asong-PinoY) named Porky. He has one eye and walks in weird non-straight way. His tail swirls like a piggy (thus the name) and he is quite timid for a big dog. Porky is adorable except he stinks :( He hates bath time and would really get mad if we force him to get one. That's why he is rarely allowed inside the house anymore.

When I get my own pet, I'd get a smaller dog. Also, I'd make sure to give him a bath 3x a week for good measure.

Jacob @ 10months.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Has is really been 10 months?

Jacob is growing up to be one tough kid to look after! He loves to be left alone to crawl or wander about the room. He hates it if you try to hold him back. He can't sit still for long periods of time so eating time means rush time. Although we have no problem feeding him, as long as he doesn't have to stay still for a long time.

He can now:
  • he can wave byebye
  • he is awake longer now. he only takes 3 short naps a day (instead of 4) and he sleeps at 830 and promptly wakes up at 6AM. He is mine and Joshua's personal alarm clock.
  • he likes eating biscuits.
  • he doesn't like feeding on the bottle. he prefers my milk.
  • he would seek out his big brother and try to play with him.
  • he asserts his wants. I have already tried breaking up fights over toys between him and Kuya.

Turning 4.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Whew.

Good thing work load is not very heavy today; My hands are full with making sure that everything will go smoothly tomorrow for Joshua's birthday. Basically, he will celebrate his 4th birthday for the 1st time in school with his classmates. There will be cake, a story-telling activity (courtesy of my Mom!!! Thanks Ma!) and of course eating and giving of the give-away's. That's it. I have already given Ozzy's dinosaurs to the cake-maker so that she can copy them. 2 of the dinosaurs are his existing toys and the other 2 are new one's. His gift for his birthday. Now he will have 4 because he's 4! LOL

I still have to organize the loot bags and gather some pictures for the story-telling activity. After that, everything will be set.

(This is why I am not a fan of hosting a party, even a little one because I get stressed making sure everything will run smoothly.)

We would have handa here at home but nothing fancy. Lunch with the relatives will be on Saturday. That dinner will also be for my Dad's 57th birthday celebration (his birthday is on the 23rd). July is indeed a month of celebrations. Don't get me started on September. Birthdays and anniversaries line up daily especially on September. I just have to make sure to have my supply of weight loss products in case I'll need 'em. I don't want to be too overweight when Hubby comes home this December.

That's what all this is about after all, isn't it?
We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of my eyes and the number 333333.

1. The temperature in Mooseheadville, Canada was 34 below. Most of the U.S. is in a serious heat wave. In Connecticut, it was 92 degrees in the shade. What do YOU do to beat the heat?
92 degrees? we had that weather too last May and on the first weeks of June! It was brutal. The kids and I would stay in the air conditioned room or sometimes we would go for a swim.

2. What is your favorite summertime song?
...for this summer, the song that was overplayed in my list was Empire State of Mind

3. Besides nude beaches what's your favorite outdoor summer activity?
Besides nude beaches? LOL...I enjoy uhmmm normal beaches.

4. I'm inviting everyone to a cook-out with Kimber and Berleen. What should I cook for you?
ribs yummm ^-^

5. When selecting your swimwear do you go for sexy or practical?
Something practically sexy. ahahaha

6. Back in the day, did you ever have a summer fling? If yes, do tell. (Names not required.)
Boring, but no.

7. Do you know anyone who hates air conditioning? If yes, what is their reasoning?
our maids. They find the coolness weird, I guess they are just not used to it.

8. When and with who was your last skinny dip?
Never and no one.

9. How sick of LeBron James are you?
I don't really know him...I only know he plays basketball - I don't even know for what team.

10. When you were a kid, what was your best summer?
...when I was a kid, all my summers were fun-filled. I especially loved playing outside with my friends. My best one would be when we spent the whole summer away; we were in my aunt's house in the big city with my cousins. It was so fun. We watched Disney movies until we memorized all the lines, we watched The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty.

11. Belly up to the bar. We serve ANYTHING. It's 100 degrees. What should we pour for you?
Mojitos.

12. Is there a favorite meal that you like to have in the summer?
None in particular....but my fave dessert would be halo2x.

13. Do you think they will solve the oil spill in time for the Gulf states to enjoy summer?
I really hope so!

On Stands.

I've been eying a new HDTV for our room and I can't decide which tv stands to choose.

....which looks better? This one:

I like that I can put a lot of the kids books here. The lighter color fits our other furniture inside the room and that's why I am partial to this one.

Or...

I love that it looks clean. The color is a bit dark for me though.

Well, I am just browsing. I really want a TV inside the room. Maybe we can just put it on the wall in a mount, but we really could use the closet space =)

Panicking

We'll be attending a wedding this weekend.

I am panicking. Ozzy's sty hasn't subsided and he will have to walk the isle...a friend suggested we make him wear shades. This way, he can still be the coin bearer and look cool at the same time =) We'll see. If he isn't feeling too well tomorrow, I will have to back out. I've talked to the wedding organizer and he said it's okay. The bible bearer can take Ozzy's place.

Phew. That's good to know. At least I am not too pressured anymore. Now, the only thing I need is their wedding gift. I don't know what they may need, but these patio furniture looks chic. Maybe a nice vase or home decor too sounds nice. Any other wedding gift ideas?

Shoti @ 9m and 2w

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

By this week, your baby will start to remember more specific information, such as where her toys are in your home. She'll also be able to imitate actions she's seen as long as a week before.

These skills indicate that she has recall memory — the ability to remember some details of a specific experience for a short time — though she still doesn't remember most of her experiences. Long-lasting conscious memory of specific events won't develop until your child is 2 or 3 years old, when real language emerges.

Lately he is easier to teach new skills like waving goodbye and closing/opening his hands. He also seems to understand "no" (although this doesn't mean he listens). His sleeping pattern also changed. He loves to climb things or crawl around. He doesn't like to be held all the time. He wants to be put down so he can explore. 2 of his teeth has erupted already, one on top and one at the bottom which looks silly.

Mommy Gaga

One of the many crazy statement by the little boy.

Joshua: Ma, what's the name of that girl in Poker Face?
Me: Lady Gaga.
Joshua: You look like Lady Gaga, Mommy Gi!!!

I don't even know how to respond to that! LOL. Dunno, should I be insulted or flattered? Probably the latter. I look nothing like here noh! Gosh, besides, I'd need weight loss pills to even be at par with her body. Don't you just love her legs? Although, I love Lady Gaga's songs and admittedly she IS sexy but she's wayyy weird. She dresses TOO flamboyantly and she seems high all the time.

Burgundy Dresses

I've got a wedding to attend this coming Saturday; although I am not in the entourage, Ozzy will be. He is the coin bearer. I really hope his stye will heal and he does a good job walking down the isle!!!

However, even if I'm not part of the wedding, that does not stop me from shopping for a new dress! The color theme of the wedding is burgundy. Here are some options of the style of the dress that I am partial to.
Missoni Dress

H&M Dress (okay so this one isn't burgundy but I love it..)

...I should stop snacking on bread with cream cheese so that I won't look bloated. While I am at it, I should stop drinking soda all together plus I should read up on hydroxycut advanced reviews before I try one. I don't know why I am so stressed about looking my best, I won't even walk down any isle...Ozzy on the other hand doesn't even care.

Has reading a book ever changed your life? Which one and why, if yes?
...nope. Not really. I've read a lot of pregnancy books and having children changed my life - does that count??

Name one book you had to read but hated, and explain why you hated it.
mmmmmm...Lost Symbol by Dan Brown - I hated it because it was far fetched. I like The Da Vinci Code better.

If you could pick a book you’ve read to make into a movie, which one would you choose?
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella! This book is so fun. I recommend it.

If I could stay in, watch TV shows all day in my new Samsung HDTV (if I get one) and lay around my room eating chips, I would. I haven't done that in....uhmmm....forever!

It seems like there is always something to do, something to fix or someone to take care of. I feel like a burn out is coming real soon. I want a vacation. A quiet vacation sans the kids. Am I bad for wanting that?

Can we fast-forward to December?

Independence Weekend

I didn't realize, this weekend is the 4th of July weekend. July 4 is Independence Day and it is the national day of the United States. And...here we go!

1. When it's quiet around the house, either the kids are asleep or they are up to no good.

2. Between the kids getting sick and Ozzy's school, it seems I haven't slept soundly in what seems like a month.

3. My heart is located on the left side, just beneath my ribcage, that holds true for most people but for a tiny minority, it is on the right side but that is not an abnormality.

4. We will celebrate my son's 4th birthday @school on the 14th of July.

5. In the town where I was born there's this fruit named Durian whose gotten mixed reviews about its taste and smell. Some people can't stand it while other's love it.

6. His trustworthiness is something I really love about my significant other.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching 90210, tomorrow my plans include going to a children's party and Sunday, I want to rest!

21 Things You Shouldn't Buy New

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Got this article from Yahoo news. =) Thought it would be nice to repost it here.

  1. DVDs and CDs: Used DVDs and CDs will play like new if they were well taken care of. Even if you wind up with a scratched disc and you don't want to bother with a return, there are and make the DVD or CD playable again.
  2. Books: You can buy used books at significant discounts from online sellers and brick-and-mortar used book stores. The condition of the books may vary, but they usually range from good to like-new. And of course, check out your local library for free reading material.
  3. Video Games: Kids get tired of video games rather quickly. You can easily find used video games from online sellers at sites like Amazon and eBay a few months after the release date. Most video game store outlets will feature a used game shelf, as well. And if you're not the patient type, you can rent or borrow from a friend first to see if it's worth the purchase.
  4. Special Occasion and Holiday Clothing: Sometimes you'll need to buy formal clothing for special occasions, such as weddings or prom. Most people will take good care of formal clothing but will only wear it once or twice. Their closet castouts are your savings: Thrift stores, yard sales, online sellers and even some dress shops offer fantastic buys on used formalwear.
  5. Jewelry: Depreciation hits hard when you try to sell used jewelry, but as a buyer you can take advantage of the markdown to save a bundle. This is especially true for diamonds, which has ridiculously low resale value. Check out estate sales and reputable pawn shops to find great deals on unique pieces. Even if you decide to resell the jewelry later, the depreciation won't hurt as much.
  6. Ikea Furniture: Why bother assembling your own when you can pick it up for free (or nearly free) on Craigslist and Freecycle? Summer is the best time to hunt for Ikea furniture--that's when college students are changing apartments and tossing out their goodies.
  7. Games and Toys: How long do games and toys remain your child's favorite before they're left forgotten under the bed or in the closet? You can find used children's toys in great condition at moving sales or on Craigslist, or you can ask your neighbors, friends, and family to trade used toys. Just make sure to give them a good wash before letting junior play.
  8. Maternity and Baby Clothes: Compared to everyday outfits that you can wear any time, maternity clothes don't get much wear outside the few months of pregnancy when they fit. The same goes for baby clothes that are quickly outgrown. You'll save a small fortune by purchasing gently used maternity clothes and baby clothes at yard sales and thrift stores. Like children's games and toys, friends and family may have baby or maternity clothing that they'll be happy to let you take off their hands.
  9. Musical Instruments: Purchasing new musical instruments for a beginner musician is rarely a good idea. (Are you ready to pay $60 an hour for piano lessons?) For your little dear who wants to learn to play an instrument, you should see how long his or her interest lasts by acquiring a rented or used instrument to practice with first. Unless you're a professional musician or your junior prodigy is seriously committed to music, a brand new instrument may not be the best investment.
  10. Pets: If you buy a puppy (or kitty) from a professional breeder or a pet store outlet, it can set you back anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. On top of this, you'll need to anticipate additional fees and vet bills, too. Instead, adopt a pre-owned pet from your local animal shelter and get a new family member, fees, and vaccines at a substantially lower cost.
  11. Home Accent: Pieces Home decorating pieces and artwork are rarely handled on a day-to-day basis, so they're generally still in good condition even after being resold multiple times. If you like the worn-out look of some decor pieces, you can be sure you didn't pay extra for something that comes naturally with time. And don't forget, for most of us, discovering a true gem at a garage sale is 90% of the fun!
  12. Craft Supplies: If you're into crafting, you probably have a variety of different supplies left over from prior projects. If you require some additional supplies for your upcoming project, then you can join a craft swap where you'll find other crafty people to trade supplies with. If you have leftovers, be sure to donate them to your local schools.
  13. Houses: You're typically able to get better and more features for your dollar when you purchase an older home rather than building new. Older houses were often constructed on bigger corner lots, and you also get architectural variety in your neighborhood if the houses were built or remodeled in different eras.
  14. Office Furniture: Good office furniture is built to withstand heavy use and handling. Really solid pieces will last a lifetime, long after they're resold the first or second time. A great used desk or file cabinet will work as well as (or better than) a new one, but for a fraction of the cost. With the recession shutting down so many businesses, you can easily find lots of great office furniture deals.
  15. Cars: You've probably heard this before: Cars depreciate the second you drive them off of the dealership's lot. In buying a used car, you save money on both the initial cost and the insurance. It also helps to know a trusty mechanic who can check it over first. This way, you'll be aware of any potential problems before you make the purchase.
  16. Hand Tools: Simple tools with few moving parts, like hammers, hoes and wrenches, will keep for decades so long as they are well-made to begin with and are well-maintained. These are fairly easy to find at neighborhood yard or garage sales. If you don't need to use hand tools very often, an even better deal is to rent a set of tools or borrow them from a friend.
  17. Sports Equipment: Most people buy sports equipment planning to use it until it drops, but this rarely happens. So when sports equipment ends up on the resale market, they tend to still be in excellent condition. Look into buying used sporting gear through Craigslist and at yard sales or sports equipment stores.
  18. Consumer Electronics: I know most folks like shiny new toys, but refurbished electronic goods are a much sweeter deal. Consumer electronics are returned to the manufacturer for different reasons, but generally, they'll be inspected for damaged parts, fixed, tested, then resold at a lower price. Just make sure you get a good warranty along with your purchase.
  19. Gardening Supplies: This is an easy way for you to save money, and all you need to do is be observant. Take a look outdoors and you'll likely find such gardening supplies as mulch, wood, and even stones for free or vastly reduced prices. Used garden equipment and tools are also common goods at yard sales.
  20. Timeshares: Buying timeshares isn't for everyone, but if you decide that it suits your lifestyle, purchasing the property as a resale would be a better deal than buying it brand new: on average, you'll save 67 percent on the price for a comparable new timeshare. If you're new to timeshare ownership, give it a test run first by renting short term.
  21. Recreational Items: It's fairly easy to find high ticket recreational items like campers, boats, and jet skis being resold. Oftentimes, they're barely used at all. As long as they're in safe, working condition, they'll make for a better value when purchased used than new.

Cutter.

I am in a business of importations. We import a lot of spare parts for agricultural equipment like tractors. That is our bread and butter; once in awhile we get to sell tractors itself and that is even better. Well anyway, that being said we always receive boxes of parts here at home for disbursement. I used a simple cutter to open our packages but then I almost got into accidents because of it. I was asking dad for a safer box cutter which has safety precautions. I hope he finds something good.

Check this out.

I wonder if I can get one in ebay? Oh well, if not I know there are a lot of choices of custom usb drives in usimprints.com. I especially love this clever USB Wrist band. This is a perfect gift to my brother who loses his thumb drive because he leaves it everywhere. This way he has his thumb drive with him at all times. Also, they have this thumb drive that's eco-friendly. Check them out yourself and choose your very own thumb.

The TT questions are brought to you by Berleen, the color of Pacific Ocean and the number that comes after 393.

So yeah, it's a holiday weekend. 4th of July... Independence Day... whatever you want to call it. What are you doing on July 5th?
It's not a Holiday here in our Country, on July 5th, a Monday - I'd be @ work, obviously.

Have you ever known anyone who has been kidnapped?
...nope!

Does wiping with newspaper make you a smartass?
Hahaha. That's a smart way of saying it. Nope. It doesn't make you a smart ass at all though.

If someone sends you - or you stumble upon a link that will show you celebrity death photos, do you click the link?
Uhmmm. Yeah I'd probably want to see that.

Do you decorate your computer/laptop?
Yeah. I have glittery stones on my monitor @ work and I plan to have some put on my laptop and phone.

You see Bud and his lady out walking in a park... suddenly she stops and kicks him square in the ass. What did he say to her?
Hahaha. I wouldn't want to know.

There is a cockroach, a tarantula and a mouse in the room - which one do you kill first?
Eeeeeack. I'd probably won't have time to kill any. I'd go out of the room ASAP.

Did you know that a hay bale can start on fire by itself? Do you know how?
Really? I didn't know that and I would not know how either.

Kimber calls you - what is her voice like?
Sultry.

Have you ever played Battleship?
Yes, when I was younger.

Days of our Lives paid tribute to Francis Reid/Alice Horton this week (Francis, the actress, died in February, Alice (the character) died last week). She was 91 years old and was portrayed as a smart, witty, funny, loving, always gave the best advice type woman. Wonderful mother, grandmother, friend... many characters (and cast members) commented on how they strive to be the type of woman she was. Is there someone in your life that you strive to be like?
Uhmmm. Yeah I'd probably want to see that.

Do you attend parades?
SINULOG; before I had kids. Now, nope.

If Berleen were to purchase three 10-gallon tubs of the peanut butter that they use at Dairy Queens, would you think any less of her?
Nope.

If all the flowers but one kind withered and died, never to grow again, but that one kind of
flower would grow worldwide forever, what would you want the surviving flower to be?
I dunno...something sweet smelling. Lilac maybe because they are pretty and smell good or my 2nd choice would be cherry blossoms.
