Water-Borne

Friday, August 27, 2010

The baby has fever again.

I think it might be because of his teeth erupting. But then again, maybe he has an infection somewhere I don't know. Maybe a stomach ache? Ate something dirty perhaps? I instructed the nanny never to let the baby drink from tap.

Right now, our water for bathing, washing and cooking comes from the tap. We buy purified water and use it as our drinking water. Dad was thinking about getting a whole house water filter. Actually this is not such a bad idea. This way, we can be sure of the cleanliness of the water for all. We all know how many water borne diseases are there nowadays. Better keep safe at all times.

Boost Of Inspiration

I am feeling stressed and the lack of sleep is driving me nuts. The baby was fussy the whole night because he had slight fever. Now, I am in front of the monitor thinking about sleep, the beach (because were going tomorrow) and dozing off in comfy outdoor chaise lounges (a wicker daybed with canopy to be exact)

Ahhh. That would be the life.

I've seen this kind of wicker outdoor daybed in one of the bars uptown and I've been green with envy ever since I laid my eyes on it. It cost an arm and a leg though so, I won't even think about it anymore. Still...it's free to dream.

(that's me, dreaming...sitting on the daybed wishing it was mine!)

For now, here are some inspirational pictures to get me through the day.

I love anything about designing a house ^-^ Can't get enough. Xoxo

Thursday Thunks: Giving Away Money

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Welcome to the August 26th edition of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want.
Write about it on your blog... simple as that.
Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!

Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post.
Don't forget to go visit the other
participants' blogs.
Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks responses!
That's what all this is about after all, isn't it?
We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of organic salsa and the number 3333.

1. To whom did you last give the finger?
*No one.

2. If you had 1,000 dollars and HAD to spend it, what would you buy?
*Watch and a Bag...if I had 1 grand you don't have to tell me to spend I'd gladly do it.

3. What was the last beverage you spilled on yourself?
*Iced-tea.

4. When was the last photograph you took? What was it of?
*My baby boy enjoying his new ride.

5. Who was the last person to smoke a cigarette in your presence?
*Can't recall. I generally steer clear from people who smoke. Hubby smoked and I've been asking him to quit to no avail.

6. What animal did you last pet or hold?
*Doggie but that was quite some time ago. I seldom pet the dog because I handle the kids, and you know how dogs can be dirty.

7. What was the last superstitious thing you did?
*I read my horoscope. Though I don't believe it, I still enjoy reading it from time to time.

8. What was the last text message you received?
*From my brothers asking me about something.

9. Berleen has decided to buy twelve goats. If she trades three for some awesome pot, loses one while she was stoned, what do you think she did with the rest?
*She would still have 8! What else? Buy more pot ^-^

10. What was the last musical instrument played in your presence?
*Guitar

11. What was the last note that you wrote on your hand?
*Nothing. Too long ago, I can't recall. There's papar and memo app in the phones for this now ^-^

12. Kimber announced that she was born on another planet. Which one do you think it was and why?
*LOL really? She said that? Maybe she was born in Venus.

13. What are you wearing as you answer these ridiculously stupid TT questions?
*
Cream romper.

Light Fixtures

I've had about enough of our lighting in my room. I couldn't put my make-up properly because of the poor lighting. We only have a single overhead light and since our ceiling is pretty high up, it just isn't enough. I wish to add 2 lamps, if not maybe a bigger ceiling light perhaps that will offer ample lighting for our room but is still energy efficient. I actually love this bowl style, pendant light fixtures. It looks perfect for our room, not too showy but still very elegant. Come to think of it, pendant type kitchen light fixtures is perfect over our dining table. While were at the business of talking about lighting, I always read about fluorescent lighting fixtures and led lighting fixtures but I don't get what their difference is? Or is there a difference? I read that basically, LED lighting has zero mercury thus it is more friendly to the environment. But because the LED light is quite directed it can be difficult to use them to light up a room. That's why it is best to use LED light only for lamps, task lights, nightlights, pathway lighting, exit signs or for exterior light fixtures. For your living space, a compact fluorescent can give you the more 'friendly' ambiance. With that in mind, as a buyer, I can now decide better which to use. For our room, a fluorescent light is better, definitely. If I decide to get lamps and night lights (for the kids) I will get LED lights. I really enjoy shopping for the house....I can't wait to start.

Fill in the blank: If I had a nickel for every time I...

...promise myself I'd start to eat healthier, then I would have enough and I won't have to diet and just go ahead and get a lipo =P

What do you think about while you exercise?
HAHAHAHAHAHA nothing =P I never ever exercise. See Q#1.

What are 5 things you love about your spouse/partner/significant other (or children or pet)?

I love that my Hubby is...
  1. Loyal, we are miles apart but I trust him just he trusts me completely.
  2. Generous...he works hard to give us what we need and want ^-^
  3. Hardworking, who would want to live miles away from his wife & kids? No one. But he does it anyway to secure our future.
  4. Understanding.
  5. ...a good person all throughout. He loves his family. He has a sound moral compass and he does what is right (most of the time =P).

Baby Shoti @ 11M

Jacob's has already reached most of his milestones.

Although he isn't walking yet, I can see that it is any day now. He is showing signs of readiness..and I can't help but let him be.^-^

He especially loves crawling out of his mat and into the living room and kitchen. So, I let him and to my horror he would even try going up the stairs (no!!!)

He can't really talk yet, but he says "Mama" a lot. He babbles, giggles and loves to shout when he and his brother are playing. Their fave game is hide & seek. Kuya would hide and baby brother would squeal in delight trying to look for him.

You can also see that he understands "no". He doesn't necessarily obey (tsk) but he would cry in protest when he doesn't get what he wants.

He is not as fussy when he is holding onto a biscuit or any kind of food. Right now, he refuses to drink milk from the bottle. He would rather drink water than drink his milk thus the reason for his weight loss. (aside from the fact that he's soooo malikot na)

That's it! More updates soon. He'll be one in a month ^-^ Times flies!

Not For Me.

The kids and I have been coughing on and off for about 2 weeks now. I keep on blaming the weather. It's extreme. Mornings are hot, the sun is shining and when afternoon comes, rains pour nonstop.

Mother Earth is mad at us for not taking care of her for sure.

...So anyway, I've been feeling like I've taken on healthcare jobs that I didn't sign up for. Remembering medication and dosage for the 2 babies, aged 4 and 11 months is confusing, add me to the mix then I really need to write all those down. You see, I am no good with memorizing stuff, I write everything down to help me remember. Tell me the name of a medicine and ask me again in 1 hour, chances are I have forgotten already. I forget how many ML in how many hours and what medicines NOT to take with an empty stomach. I have a lot of friends in healthcare and medical field, and I get impressed by how much they memorize. When I ask them off the bat about a certain health issue, or about a medication, they can answer me accurately without hesitation. Amazing. As for me? Healthcare is not for me.

My son, Ozzy actually has a good memory and I am hopeful to have a doctor someday. I can see that this is one of his strengths. Who knows, maybe he can be a vet? He loves animals, he has a good memory...plus he is showing signs of being good at numbers too.

When did your baby first...

Smile? 5th day :))

Roll over? 4th month.

Sit up? 6 months.

Crawl? @6th month he would lunge forward but he started crawling better @7 months.

Say mama or dada? when he was 6 months old, he would say MAMA, TATA and PAPA.

Cut a tooth? 9th month.

Clap? Not yet =(( but he could do the "align" thing and the close/open @9months.

Wave bye-bye? Around 10 months.

Stand alone?
right now, 11th month. He can stand alone for a few seconds ^-^ He can also cruise while holding onto furniture. He started to "stand" around his 8th month but only for a split second, now @11m he's doing it more confidently.

to be continued..............
Walk?

Run?

Looking For Great Deals

Friday, August 13, 2010

Some of my clothes are illegally staying inside my sister's closet. Heehee Don't tell her. Well, I kind of ran out of closet space in mine and I really don't want to let go of some of my clothes and because my sister's away...there's ample space in hers! I blame the kids clothing. (-_-*) Because we lack cabinets and shelving, some of their clothes are inside my closet. Anyway, Mom and I are talking about holding a garage sale. We have so much stuff unused that's gathering dust in the house. We have clothing, shoes, bags, accessories and soooo much books!

Ever since Ozzy started schooling, his workbooks and coloring books have doubled in number, me-thinks we need one of these to hold on to his collection. There's this cool site which sells preschool furniture and I found this bookshelf that can hold toys as well. This would be the right size for our room. There's a 3-day sale in one of the major malls in my City right now and I will try to look for a similar one. I cannot take the fact that our room is in disarray. I hope I get some good deals!

Rock 'n Roll Fridays!

Hi and welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays. We are like other memes in that we will ask you thirteen questions each and every Friday. But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick an singer, band, era or category and pick thirteen of their lyrics. Each of our questions will be based on the lyrics. Got it? Great! Let's begin this week's meme!

Today we picked Michael Jackson. The song titles from which we took the lyrics are in caps. Here's Rock 'n Roll Fridays!

1. BLACK OR WHITE: “It’s a turf war on a global scale I’d rather hear both sides of the tale” …
What was the reason for your last argument?
I actually can't remember anymore.

2. DON’T STOP TILL YOU GET ENOUGH: “Touch me and I feel on fire, Ain’t nothing like a love desire…I’m melting like hot candle wax, Sensation lovely where we’re at” …
Where was the last place you were intimate with someone?
House. Room.

3. ROCK WITH YOU: “Out on the floor There ain't nobody there but us…Girl, when you dance, there’s a magic that must be love” …
What is your favorite dance move?
Hahahaha none! I don't dance anymore =)) My fave dance move would be too baduy to say.

4. OFF THE WALL: “So tonight, gotta leave that 9 to 5 up on the shelf, and just enjoy yourself…groove…Let the madness in the music get to you, life ain’t so bad at all, If you live it off the wall” …
What do you like to listen to in the car or train/bus when you head home from work?
I love listening to 90's songs or the one from Rihanna and Emimen - Love The Way You Lie.

5. SHE’S OUT OF MY LIFE: “She’s out of my life. And I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I don’t know whether to live or die. And it cuts like a knife. She’s out of my life” …
Who are you glad is out of your life?
Ozzy's previous Nanny.

6. THRILLER: “They’re out to get you, there’s demons closing in on every side. They will possess you, unless you change that number on your dial. Now is the time for you and I to cuddle close together, yeah. All thru the night. I’ll save you from the terror on the screen” …
What is your favorite monster or creepy person?
Sadako of The Ring. :(((

7. BEN: “Ben most people will turn you away. I don’t listen to a word they say. They don’t see you as I do, I wish they would try to. I’m sure they’d think again if they had a friend like Ben” …
Who have you hung out with that no one else seemed to like?
mmmmm no one. I wouldn't hang out with that person too.

8. HUMAN NATURE: “Get me out into the night time, 4 walls won’t hold me tonight. If this town is just an apple. Then let me take a bite” …
What is your favorite thing about New York?
The abundance of shops and the diversity of people!!!!

9. MAN IN THE MIRROR: “I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make that change” …

My hair, it's lighter in color now. I am thinking of changing it back to a darker hue though.

When was the last time someone refused to let you enter somewhere or threw you out of a place you were in?
....none.

11. BAD: “I’m giving you on count of 3, to show your stuff or let it be. I’m telling you to watch your mouth, I know your name, what you’re about” …
What celebrity or politician do you think is a total jerk?

12. EARTH SONG: “Did you ever stop to notice all the blood we’ve shed before. Did you ever stop to notice this crying earth, this weeping shore” …
What do you believe is the worst environmental or political tragedy to date?
environmental tragedy would be the oil spill.

What is your favorite regional bird?

TV Time is Me Time

US TV guilty pleasure that I am excited for these coming months:

  • Gossip Girl - Blake Lively who plays lead, Serena is rumored to want to leave the show. Talks says she will be killed off the show...I don't mind her character being killed, the writers of the show doesn't put Serena in a good light...time for fresh scandal! Thoughts????
  • Dexter Season 5!!! ^-^ (Thank God Michael C. Hall is cancer free!)
  • GLEE...I am not a fan of Charice, but still..Filipino's represent! Can you believe, Ellen de Generes actually tweeted this :"I've learned 2 things about TV, it's always easier with vodka and some of the best singers are from the Philippines."
Anyway...what are other shows worth your time these days? If there's a tv set in our bedroom I can watch more shows. Unfortunately, I don't have a set in my room. We do have one in the mezzanine and I watch there most of the time. It is an old set with an indoor antenna and I think, the antenna is busted. Most of the time, channels are not crisp in reception and whenever it rains, the signal gets cuts off =((. I was reading about antenna reviews one day when I remember about it.

I was debating whether to buy a flat screen hdtv for our room, you see I watch tv to unwind, so it will actually be a good thing. BUT the kids might get addicted to watching tv all the time thus, my hesitation. We've recently upgraded 2 of our sets to digital tv and its really great too.

What do you think about tv set inside the bedroom? good or bad?

Glorified Housewife

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

The thing about working at home is that people always get confused and assume I am actually a housewife.

Nothing against being a housewife or anything - it's just that I do work 8-5PM and because our office is @ the 3rd floor or our house, I am just lucky travel time is zero. But I work and its unfair to be thought otherwise.

I bumped into an old college classmate and he was insisting I was a glorified housewife. He also insisted I was "pampered and relaxed". While it is true I am not harassed in terms of work but I am not pampered or relaxed at all. Try taking care of 2 kids without a husband near while working an 8-5 job and tell me if I am indeed pampered.

On The Defense

My brother has finally decided that he wants to drive. After months of prodding, he says he will apply for a non-pro license already. Good luck to him, last I heard - the LTO has tightened its requirements, you have to pass the written (30correct over 40questions) exam and the driving test. I saw him browsing for some used cars for sale in the internet and I remembered the site cars-central.com because they sell repo cars. I told him to check it out.

I hope he passes the exam though! ^-^ When we went driving once, he was okay but he easily got rattled with nerves especially if he has to turn and there's pedestrian crossing.

It takes guts to drive in the Philippines. Drivers are rude, aggressive and plain scary. You have to be a defensive driver all the time. That's why it took me 3 years to go back driving after a few misses on the first year. That was 2 years ago. Now...I am confident to say that I am a more relaxed driver.

Except only when I have to parallel park. I just can't do it. :))

Vitamin C for Me.

...I am coming down something.

My nose is clogging up. My throat is scratchy. I am feverish. I hope this is nothing because I have a few activities lined up this week. I have some dinner with HS friends to go to, I have to canvass for a venue for Jacob's 1st etc.

The weather is getting to me. Then again, I just need to OD on vitamin C and Calamnsi juice for now.

Some Stuff From eBay

I hate online shops!!!! x((

...I promised myself at the beginning of this month that I won't buy anything for me that is not a need.

Guess what, I've already bought a LOT and it's not even the 15th yet. Ebay and other online shops are so tempting. You don't have to go out and spend a whole lot of effort to shop, you just have to sit back, let the browser do the hard work and voila, next thing you know you're in your paypal account paying for the 3 bracelets you think you need. (In my defense they were all really cheap)

I can't believe I am saying this, I actually miss shopping in a normal shopping mall, lining up and waiting for the cashier to use her barcode scanner to make the sale final. I actually miss going in thinking of buying jeans, end up fitting 5 pairs of jeans only to buy a blouse instead.

So...I therefore resolve, no more online shopping for me -at least for this month and next.

October is a whole new quarter though. ^-^

Flu Season

The baby is sick again =((

He has colds and whenever he coughs hard, he vomits! It's bad enough that he stopped drinking milk from the bottle, now he vomits what little he has taken. I still nurse, but my milk supply has lessened substantially since Jacob started solids.

Times like these (its rainy and flu season is in), when medical expenses shoot up - I wish I have some sort of a medical card or medical insurance from work. However, it is not part of our benefits but at least Hubby and I am paid well enough to afford to bring the kids to the doctor whenever we need it. The great thing about having insurance though is that it will come in handy when you don't have backup cash stored. But don't you just hate it when you don't understand what your medical insurance covers? There are exceptions and stuff my agent would offer me that she doesn't bother to expound on that's why I get turned off and decide not to avail after all. Good thing Allsup Medicare Advisor is there to explain to me for example, what Medicare part D plans are all about! They can save you the time and money which is vital to you. They would answer all you questions, assess what medicare you need, how to get started and all that stuff.

So if you are confused about what to get or to get at all, check out some advisors first.

Bunk HOuses

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Last Saturday, Mom and I went around the City to look at townhouses and condo's. While there are many townhouses and apartments sprouting all over the metro, there are only a handful worth your money. The one I found that's really nice is just down the street from my own house. That's a big bonus actually. It is still in the subdivision but a smaller community. The townhouse is individually gated, has a garage, a decent sized kitchen and sala. It has a maids quarter and 3 bedrooms upstairs. Plus it has a walk-in closet ^-^ Made me stop and really think. It is a bit pricey though - thus the "thinking" part. The 2 rooms upstairs isn't that big in size but it was beautifully made. It's floor was tiled and there are built in cabinets in the room. For my boys, putting twin bunk bed in there would already be perfect for them. I especially love this one, with stair and extra storage! You can never have too many extra closet space. Actually, if you visit the site Mom's Bunk House, you will surely find the perfect space for you kids because they specialize in bunk beds for kids....and mom's know what's best right? They offer products like twin bunk bed over twin: Captain's Beds: Twin/Full Mission bunk beds wood cappuccino finish (which I find beautiful..)

Plus, they have accessories too like side tables, cabinets, dressers and this cute little students table. My agent offered houses which are furnished - I told her part of the fun in buying a house is buying the furniture too! ^-^ I can't wait to have my very own house and nook to furnish. For sure, I'd be looking back in this site to get me some of these bunk beds!

Manic Monday #217

Right now, what's on your mind?

...too many things!!! Jacob's 1st birthday party (details and such), online tasks that are pending 4++ posts, work stuff and parts I need to order, I am also thinking about some possible places Hubby & I can escape to when he comes home. ALSO, I am thinking about this cute fossil charm watch ^-^ Should I get it???? Hmmmmm...

List 10 things you expect from a good friend.
I expect a good friend to be:
  1. Loyal
  2. Sincere
  3. Honest
  4. Open-Minded
  5. Kind
  6. Patient
  7. Understanding
  8. Generous
  9. Trustworthy
  10. Loads of fun to be with
What's something you've done that you wish you hadn't?

I wish I hadn't splurged on too much cupcakes for Joshua's birthday. While it is true he enjoyed his cake very much, I should have just bought 3 dozens instead of 4. We still have cupcakes in our ref right now =((

Clays

I have always been attracted to arts & crafts. Anything to do with working with my hands are appealing to me. Sadly, I never get to enjoy my hobby these past few years because the kids are fairly young and most of my time and attention are focused on them.

One of the things I am seriously thinking about is fashion jewelry making. Why not? I am fond of accessories anyway, might as well make them myself. Aside from this, pottery seems like a fun thing too. A close family friend once had this business and she told me all about it once for our school paper. Basically, working with clay is fairly easy. Of course, for a fantastic finish you should choose lead-free glazes from AMACO/Brent. There are a whole lot of choices of liquid glazes, you just have to know which is the right one for you or your item. Lead-free is important especially because I plan to include the boys in the "painting" activity.

At AMACO/Brent, you can choose from the wide array of glazes, from low fire glazes to high fire glazes, even underglazes. It's actually fun and quite challenging learning about pottery, so if you are really serious about it, you can attend classes.^-^
