How to Create an MP3 song as IPhone ringtone

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

My sister's colleague - AK - A trainer made this to teach my sis how to easily create an MP3 song into an IPhone ringtone.

Check it out, you may want to try it too.

How to Create an MP3 song as IPhone ringtone:

Prior to creating a ringtone, make sure this is the view settings on your laptop/PC:

1. CONTROL PANEL > APPEARANCE > FOLDER OPTION > VIEW tab > uncheck the box for HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES > APPLY OK.

How to Guide:

  1. 1. Open Itunes. Choose a song on the library > right click, choose GET INFO > go to OPTIONS tab, choose the interval in the song that you’d want as ringtone (30 secs is the max duration) > click on OK. This will not alter the song in your itunes, it just limits the playback to that set time frame. You can revert it to its original length after this process.

2. Right click on the song, click on CREATE AAC VERSION. This creates another version of the song that will appear immediately on your itunes. How do you determine which one’s the AAC version? To go GET INFO, at the bottom of the SUMMARY tab, you can see its location and the file extension. It should be .m4a

3. On the song’s AAC version, right click and choose SHOW IN WINDOWS EXPLORER. Your windows folder will appear showing the location of the song. Right click on the AAC version and change the file extension to .m4r by renaming it (remember the original extension of an AAC version is .m4a).

From this:

To this:

4. Once done, drag the .m4r file back to your itunes library. It will now be in your TONES folder. From here, drag it to your attached device to SYNC it.

5. You’re done! Check your phone’s sound settings, ringtone should be there.

6. Delete the AAC version in your itunes library. You don’t need this anymore. Then change the duration of the song to its original length.
